If there was any doubt about one of the area's newest bands this year to step up to the plate to-nite Empress just did that @ the Cross Keys this evening. Producing two sets of the highest quality & professionalism the local movers & shakers were given an evening of great music & vocals which any Pro band would be proud of,with Louise on vocals this band has one gem of a singer whose vocal range & stage pressence are with-out doubt one of the best female talents on the circuit. Empress are not a band who shirk from playing covers from across the spectrum & dont shirk on trying something from the norm which you would normally expect from band so new to the scene but with songs from Natalie Imbruglia,Skunk Anansie,No Doubt, Rasmus,Wild Cherry,Kings of Leon, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi most of the songs from the two sets you would associate with a male led vocals but with the superb vocal talents of Louise & the talents of the thre other members in the band Tony bass,Lee on the pots n pans & which to-nite has uncovered one of the best lead guitarist's in the local area Andrew they gave all the songs justice & stamped there own trade mark on them. For me there were two highlights of the evening & hopefully a packed Keys as well the first was Empress's version of Metallica's nothing else matters which was sublime & perfect & so different & the second was the introduction to the second set were the band grabbed the audience by the short & curly's with the Kaiser Chiefs i predict a riot to state a fact this a set to lift the bums off the seats & have the movers & shakers filling every inch of space, seat or even table dancing to a great selection of rock numbers.Empress are by no doubt going to be one of the area's hottest must see bands in 2010 & will be in demand by live venues through-out the area with so much quality the band can only go from strength to strength.
