New Years Eve Extravaganza
By Roger
A big Happy new Year to everyone at the Keys and friends on behalf of the band, we would just like to say a big thanks to all that attended, sang, danced, drunk and sang a long even more. It was a top night as usual and to those of a nervous disposition - Yes - the village people may make an appearence in the future (only joking) but certain members enjoyed the camp look more than others , ok we all did - it had been a 6 month wait since last playing the Keys but it was worth the wait. See you all soon in 2012 - tof
RE: New Years Eve Extravaganza

Cheers for this Roger it was such a great night in the TOF tradition cant beleive it was 6 months back since you last played but hell last night deffinatly made up for it.P.S.ive booked myself in for therapy following the village people extravaganza.

THE FUND
By BAND MEMBER
I would like to apologise if I offended anyone with my recent comment and wasnt intentional and was taken totally out of context, It was just a unfortunate coincedence that we didnt get a review again and I got on the defensive as i enjoy reading the reviews and looking at the pics from the gigs we play there which we always enjoy. Keep up the good work and appreciate the time and effort you put into the keys website,
RE: THE FUND

No Need for the apology m8 were all here for the one thing for the greater glory of local live music. p.s it livened up the comments page which in a way is a good thing . also finaly got the time to add a few pics from Fridays gig onto the site thanks to our back up camara king Mr Chris Beevers hopefully get them on the Keys face book page now & why dont you drop us a line on how the gig went & the cause it supported this was the most unfortunat thing about being unable to attend Friday.Fingers crossed see you in April . By Mav
I received this comment this week-end on the Keys web-site from an annoyed certain band member unfortunatly i am haveing problems on the Keys site with my reply secton on the comments page so hopefully this will do for the time being. Annoyed band Member. I appologise for the lack of review & pictures from Fridays gig featuring the Fund but i hope you can appreacite i cannot attend every gig at the Keys as i do have another life other than trying to full fill every gig i possibly can i dont do this web-site as a full time job as much as i would like to but have family commitments as normal people do & do this as a love of the local music scene & try to help Lynn & Howard get the recognition they deserve. The Fund is not the be all & end all bands i have missed this year & certain peopls know why i have not attended more than normal i have had a request on the news page of the Keys site for guest reviewers on gig nights because i hope you can appreaciate it has hard to reviw some bands maybe three or four times a year. i have nothing but praise for Bev my wife who takes all the pics from the gigs when some nights she would rather curl up in front of the tv on these long nights who herself has had a bad year for illness's.Through-out the year i think we attended more gigs than most bands as do a few more contributers with there review of the local scene. Once again i appologise for the lack of feed back on the Funds recent gig in which i had glowing reports the following day & hopefully will catch them next time if at all possible. So dear annoyes Fund band member the next time you find you have a free evening in which i am sure you have many maybe you will come up to the Keys One evening say hello & do a review for us as it would be much appreaciated then sit down & publish it in the early hours of the mornig as soon as you get in as i do many a night as late as 2 am some times the get up for my early morning shift. Many thanks for your respond at least i now know two people make a visit to the Keys web-site.
RE: Annoyed Band Member

Lets all move onwards & upwards for the good of local live music whilst we have still got it .Case now closed !

get a grip, he does it voluntarily! I am disappointed if we don't get a review, but the guy has a life. How about an apology on here?

Looks like you've got history, deano :-) THE FUNDBy deanoAny chance of a review for the gig we played last saturday when we packed the pub out AGAIN!!! with our own fans and played fantastic music other then the cliche music which is normally played there by cliche rock bands playing the same old covers.Take your rock head off for a minute and give us the credit we deserve. thanks Posted on 16/12/2009 Play nice, deano :-)

THE FUND
By DISGRUNTLED BAND MEMBER
I fully appreciate the time and effort you put into the keys website and understand you cant attend every gig and be able to review it, Maybe before you started writing your review of the band Top Gun who appeared there on Saturday Night you could of started off by apologising for there being no review for The Fund due to you not been able to attend the gig that night. Maybe The Fund arnt your cup of tea and dont play the music you are into but we dont seem to get the same recognition as the cliche rock bands who play there week in week out and everytime we have played there we have brought a good audience. We are back there in April so hopefully you can make it then.
RE: THE FUND

Firstlyi have seen the Fund on many occasions at the the Keys in there frequent visit & find them a refressing change to some of the bands week in week out over the last year i have put the Funds name forward for the Keys charity events but you have been other wise engaged when checked if available.Secondly i usually do make it a point of appologising to bands when i have been unable to attend unfortunatly i have overlooked it this time & appologise for this we had intended coming up as it happens a family matter popped up & found it to late to make it there. You are not the only band have been unable to attend this year i have missed more than normal due to commitments. hopefully we can close on this subject & will try to make April that is if i am still carrying on with this labour of love & the Cross Keys website is still alive & kicking.

Razorbach - Friday 8 Sept
By Jules
Hadn't seen Razorbach before so, after having a quick look at their web page and very much liking what we saw, we pitched up at the Keys. Disappointing turn out but, those of us that did got an absolute treat, these guys rocked despite the lead singer's throat lurgy! The set was sooo refreshing in it's originality and, was top banana musically. I know we're all guilty of loving the same old same old but, isn't it just a breath of fresh air to hear something different for a change. Guys - I loved every minute of the gig and I blame you entirely for inciting me to drink a tad too much beer, scoff a pizza and blow my diet. Oh OK then, you're forgiven. Top night! Jules
RE: Razorbach - Friday 8 Sept

Thanks for this comment Jules, yes Razorbach were an unexpected treat & definatley helped the liquid refresment go down a tad too well.

EMERALD @ the Keys
By Joe of Versatonic
Went to see EMERALD at Cross Keys, what a good professional show they put on. Mav wasn't their,so thought I'd make a comment, and all I can say is good things about the band, and I'm not just saying that because I know them. In the past they have had a few bad comments, I myself have said they are too loud, but tonight they were spot on, they are truly professional and have taken any criticism on board and rectified that. It was by no means as busy as I thought it it would be, but although a bit quiet at times, the audience really enjoyed it. Tom was on form as usual, but had no alcohol to drink at all ( f*ckin hell Tom ya got to have a few pints lol). The band were really tight and the sound so much fuller being a five piece. Songs from, ACDC, Thin Lizzy, Judast Priest, Metallica, Saxon, Motorhead e.t.c. all played to a very high standard. Two unsung heroes of the band, but not on stage, were the guy doing the lighting, and Edges lad working the sound desk both did a fantastic job. Well done lads, and thanks for a good night, see you again
RE: EMERALD @ the Keys

Cheers for the comment Joe unfortunatly i was away on jolly hols hence the lack of review & pics,i will add this in the normal reveiw section cheers again Joe seee you soon.

Re Charity Festival Ben Manning Music Foundation
By Chris
Came along to the BMMF on Sunday, I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the afternoon. I have to point out one young band by the name of Distorted miles. How good were they, they were absolutley awesome, they wowed the crowd. Will keep an eye out for when they are performing next and definatley go watch them. Their own music was just as good if not better than their originals.
RE: Re Charity Festival Ben Manning Music Foundation

Glad you enjoyed the day Chris & all the bands in particuler Distorted Miles, threr is some very good up & coming young bands on the scene at the present time & here at the Keys Howard & Lynn have allways supported them giving them the ability to show there talents to the wider public.Hopefully we will see you again at the Keys Chris just ask at the bar for mav & you will be pointed out in the right direction. On the band side there are two dates you should make a note of this friday speaking of young bands the Keys have Suicide Blonde this coming friday 5th August in my opinian this band at present his the bench mark for any new band hoping to make the grade on the local scene not to be missed these guys, secondly we have the Keys own yearly fund raiser the Keys Kneez once again a top line up of the regions premior bandsappearing on this all day event till late on the bank holiday week-end, hope you vcan make it to that & bring along a few friends. Ladies Toilet
By Lynn
Howard & I would just like to thank the mindless moron who decided to redecorate the ladies toilet doors on Saturday night. We are sure the"Hero of Whitbey" whoever he or she may be will be really proud of them. Cheers for that. Judging by the poor spelling (it even took 3 attempts to spell HERO correctly) and the state of the doors we think it is probably somebody of the younger age bracket, although we can't be certain, and is probably not even a Keys regular. The names "Tasker and Theo-the dog" are also etched into the paintwork. Anyway whoever you are you should be really proud of yourself for the mess you have left behind. Ok rant over. To everyone else that came along thanks for making it a great night. We are sure you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. Lynn x
RE: Ladies Toilet

Cant beleive all this Lynn ,shame you are unable to have closed circuit tv in the toilets then you would have the culprits bang to rights.such a sad end to one of the greatest Keys nights since you took over.

Please Please Please turn off the music player activating on all pages visted on this web site its so irritating Aghhhhhh
RE: music player

Hi Dave there is a facility to turn it of on top of the screen if you so wish ! in fact if it annoys you so much ill do a post on the news page & it there is the demand to iradicate the music i will, or then again i can just install Sex on Fire by the Kings of Leon & no doubt that will defo p_s_ everyone off as it does me when all the bands play it. Many Thanks for your comment though ! oh & by the way the next drinks on you m8 :-p.

Just like to say how i enjoyed Eight Track Hero's on Saturday.i thought the continuity of someone performing while the band took a break was excellent the guy performing did an excellent job & the band performed outstanding with songs you would'nt expect. Congratulations to all concerned.
RE: Eight Track Hero's

Thanks for the comment Paul much appreaciated the Band & guests did a sterling job due to the low turn out with churfest on down the road.

By Mav
Hi Mark & Tracy ,Thanks for your comment as aways we like to produce Pics from the band nights thankfully done by my good lady & not yours truly.,as for the poor turn-out i think there were two contributing factors 1 the hot weather 1 . folks ut all day basking in the sun partaking in a bevvy or two then crashed out by 8:00pm .2. the East Leeds Lions rally which attracts a lot of the regions music lovers. Hope to see you at the keys again on a regually basis next time say hi just ask at the bar for me.

Hi Mav, Firstly, I'm not Rik from TOF, sorry for any confusion.....my comments earlier were supposed to be tongue in cheek, I wasn't having a go at you personally I know you do a terrific job with this site and, of course, you are allowed your own personal nights out or in away from The Keys. Unfortunately I only get to The Keys on rare occasions, I live in Roundhay but have friends in the Morley area and call up to The Keys whenever we visit. I am however willing to do a review, take pics/video whenever we are there and email it to you, just in case you're not present. Sorry again for any confusion/hurt feelings caused. Next time we're at The Keys I'll introduce myself to you.

By Mav
Hi Rik no offence was taken m8 in to be truthful i thought it was Rik of tof @ first because we do have a bit of banter going on when we meet. But it has just brought to the fore front what you have mention'd it would be great to have guest review's on the site to put it in a nut shell i see the bands so often i get writers block what to say unless its a new band as was Frday evening with Road kill ,the pics in which bev takes tells its own story of the night i think the review comes from sheer pleasure of watching hard working bands @ the Keys & other venues i attend for Rock of the North, once again no offence was taken in fact i was with Rog & Lincoln last night joking about our abbsence from both there last gigs which really annoyed us as were great freinds of the band & familys as with many of the bands on the scene around west & south Yorks. Next time your over give us a shout just ask @ the bar to point me out ill not be the dancing lol & yea do me a review by all means & any ideas for the site let me know think its ready for a shuffle about.Mav

Twist Of Fate
By Riks hairy armpits
Have TOF put a ban on photos/reviews of their gigs on this site as it's the 2nd time in a row now that they've played there and a review or pics haven't been put up. I have to agree with Craig, the last gig was very good, probably one of their better ones. On another note do you think it'd be a good idea of doing a DVD, a compilation of various bands at The Keys and maybe selling them around Xmas time for charity? Would/could it work or even be done?

Twist of Fate
By Mav
R.E.Rik of the hairy arm pits ,As you would have noticed Rik myself & Bev have unfortunatly been unable to attend the last two tof gigs firstly due to illness @ the new years eve bash & secondly last week we were away @ a 50th birthday bash in South Emsal for one of your music associates & thought it just that tad to far to get back intime for the second half of your gig with breaking the speed of light. Unfortunatly & i have brought the subject up before when we are away there is a certain lack of volenteers that will take up the mantal & take a few pics & jot down a review & e-mail myself or even Lynn & Howard who have access to the site ( i even brought the matter up on the news site for guest reviewers,Try as we must but it is not alwayspossible to certain commitments family or otherwise i think a 99% attendance @ the keys from both of us is a good effort everry week-end sundays included. The last few weeks since Bevs ilness it has been hard to drag ourselves up to the Keys & do what we do plus updating the site some mornings till 2am . At one stage after the New year i contimplated calling it a day then this would give us time to travell to different venues & see the likes of tof & other super bands play in a different enviroment. Hope fully this week-end i /we might get a double week-end in @ the Keys for the bands & do a review & take pics to the best of our ability . Once again appologies for lack of pics & review I will definatly try to make the next tof gig wether it will be for the Keys site is another matter or just to enjoy great live music. p.s sorry for the long wided reply .Mav

It's the fact that it starts from the beginning whenever you change pages, I'm usually doing other things whilst on the net, tv on or listening to my own choice of music. Perhaps if it was live recording from the latest gigs it'd be better? Maybe there's a way of putting a disable button on for the player? The whole website is very good apart from, for me anyway, the player.

In reply to Just Me enquiring about lack of reviw & pics from this years New Years Eve @ the Cross Keys, unfortunatly i & my wife Bev have been unwell struck down with the dreaded flu & have'nt been able to get to the Keys these last 2 weeks hence the lack of review's & pics. I was hoping someone would have sent me a rundown on the evenings preseedings & a few pics but unfortunatly not. So if you feel you can note down a few lines & do a review i wil be only to add the review to the Keys site with pleasure or anyone else feel free ,if you have pics you can e-mail cross keys & i will also add them.Once again sorry for the inconvenence but hopefully i shall be fully recoverd for this coming week-end with two great bands on show .Mav

A very big Thank You to Howard and Lynn and all the generous people at the Cross Keys who last night raised £50 for Macmillan Cancer Care who looked after my close friend Phil in his last days. His widow and family will really appreciate that. Thanks also to Howard and Lynn for topping it up to a nice round figure. Good people all.

Great to see other people putting their points across.I am the last person in the world to easily critisize any local band and try to support them accordingly.Edge,i totally agree with many of your comments when trying out new equipment etc,i've been there myself on many ocassion!.Allthough i've had 2 bad experiences watching Emerald i would never say i hated anybody/band.One of the hardest things in life is accepting critisism be it right or wrong.I hope you are correct in saying Emerald 'will get back in the groove'.

EMERALD
By EDGE (Sticksman- Emerald)
Well, what a couple of weeks its been since our gig on the 9th. First, let's compliment Howard & Lynn for a fantastic web site. The facility to add reviews and comments is a positive step for everyone concerned. For a forum to create such a wide ranging spectrum of views creates discussion and argument between us all, and long may it continue. To start I would like to thank everyone who turned up on the 9th, but also to everone who supports the Keys and the local music scene whenever they can. Its vitally important that for an industry under constant attack (smoking ban, cheap supermarket booze, rip-off pub chains), that both musician's and audiences continue to support landlord's attempts to stimulate pub going, and to Howard & co "keep fighting". When you venture out into the world of public performance whether it be as a musician, sportsman or politician, you will never please everyone all of the time. You will never perform to exactly the same standerd all of the time, even though you strive to do so. Nobody intentionally under performs. Emerald have been around for a long time, in various formats, and one thing we have got used to over the years is a wide ranging view from individuals of what we do and how we do it. We know that we may not be everyone's cup of tea and that's fine, and we accept that sometimes you receive comments which you would not normally want to hear, but opinion's are great arn't they, and from an Emerald point of view we listen to all comments, then attempt to put things right when we know they not 100%, so all comments are greatfully received. On that night It was our first gig for 6 months, new bass player (Steve), new set, new PA, new light show. What we did was infact increase the possibility of somethiong going wrong, due to so many new elements being tried on the night, and wrong it went (apologies to everyone for that). I suppose, to give ourselves credit, we carried on when some would have given up or not started. At the end we received many good comments, but as a band we knew that things had not gone right and that collectively our level of performance was not at its usual 120%. Over the next few months as we "get back in the groove", I know that all those factors previously mentioned will iron themselves out, and Emerald will provide the type of performances everyone has got used to. Just to add though, we find it strange that people can review on three songs and then leave. That's like going to a football match and leaving just after the kick off. Would you be in a position to provide a match report? I don't think so. So, just from the band we would like to thank you all for your support (and nnon-support!!!), and maybe the next time we at the Keys (down to you Howard, old bean!!!), our recent reviewers will stay for the full monty and not hide in the car park cos it's too loud. Keep Rockin!! - EDGE

Emerald ! the return
By Mav
Phew GREAT comment Edge, allways good to hear a band member on this comments page in this little corner of England we know as Morley. Think you just about coverd every aspect of the Emerald gig & how long & hard it has been for yourself Tom & Ian to get this great institution back on the road were it rightly belongs. As you say on the first gig in 6 months witn a new Bsaa man & gear to boot plus new material you could'nt fore see anything going wrong but it did & as you say in the buissness shit happens but credit to the band & your years of experience the night ended up a well & sent home a lot of happy faces & i mean a lot, IVe had the pleasure with Howard & Lynns consent to do this web-site with which i enjoy throughly with the help of them both hopefully the live scene will continue in Morley while others fall by the wayside,no doubt Emerald will be back & will once again have the Keys rocking to the rafters. EMERALD!
By Ben
Right, let me try and put this straight. Performance wise the band were all spot on considering they had a new bass player and had been on a break for a while (im sure you all agree). To be honest, you won't find a set of amateur muscians around Leeds that are as tight as Emerald. However, the sound on that particular night wasn't up to Emerald's usual high standards. The PA system used on the night was brand new. So im sorry, but not even the most experienced sound engineer can get the mix right with a new system. So can you imagine doing that job on the stage where you cant hear bugger all of the FOH sound????? NO! cos its impossible! I find it pretty humourous that people dare to critise emerald's set up when most bands that play the keys turn up with a pair of carlsbro 12" speakers, some argos lights and a back line that came from asda. Play a lousy set of predictable so called "rock covers" and then make dozens of miskakes. If this is what your obiously into, then just go down to woodkirk or morley high school and watch a rehearsal from a bunch of 14 year olds playing a cover of American Idiot by Green Day. I however, am more into full scale professional productions. Thats why i have so much support for Emerald as they have the passion to bring this into venues such as the mighty keys! Yeah, emerald's typical sound may be a tad on the loud side but your at a rock concert remember! So fair enough, the mix was a tad on the harsh side (sh** happens from time to time unfortunatley) but did you feel that upset that you felt the need to come on here and say outlandish "personal" comments about Emerald? And as for "toms antics" on stage. Well Id rather watch an adreneline packed and lively show with passion than some lousy frontman who stands in the same spot and sings "500 miles" as if he were sat on the shitter with no passion or drive whatsoever! ( like in most cases). tom is an unbelievable frontman who only knows perfection. Emerald have dominated the cover scene for the past 10 years with thier professionalism and perfection. If people start to get on this "hate emerald" band wagon then its because of you! I can assure you that by their next gig, emerald will be back with a blast! They are playing local on Saturday 6th November and Im sure the lads will have got the sound off to a tee so please come and give them your support and watch them play an awesome show! Forget the past, get to the gig get wrecked and have a good time. go to http://www.emeraldinmorley.co.uk/ for more info! Feel free to reply to my comment in any which way you want to. however, this is only my "opinion" and doesn't reflect Emerald's feeling on this matter. they can think what the hell they like for all i care! Thanks.

me and Mrs fingers had just been to the piccy's when we found ourselves passing the keys on the way home. We decided to pop in for 'one', but after sampling what was on vamp's menu we decided to stay a while. What can I say but great choice of songs particularly liking stay with me and little wing wing with dualling guitars at the end. Brilliant musicians delivering lovely blues rock through a masterfully mixed sound, and with just the right amount of volume. just ashame other local peeps dont sample new bands from further afield at the keys as well as the popular local ones. They missed a treat!!

At last!,some other comments, thats good the more the merrier. Not getting into a slanging match here,as i stated these are my own comments,we are all entitled to an opinion.I attend the 'keys' most weeks so see lots of different bands and set ups.I can catergoricaly say that Tom WAS DRUNK when i saw them earlier this year so i dont base it on just three songs,,also for many years i worked as a sound man with some of the biggest bands arround(U2,Simpleminds,Duran Duran,OMD to name a few) so i dont think my hearing was wrong.Just remember these are my own opinions.

I'm glad that foilks have taken the time and trouble to comment here, it's healthy to have a variety of contributions as views can vary widely. However, what should be understood is that a personal opinion is never wrong, it's merely an opinion. I made my observations on the night, as others have, and I'm more than happy to agree to differ. Emerald clearly have some long standing devotees which can only be good for them and the local live music scene. That said, some detached constructive criticism can also be useful to bands in further improving their performance.

Great to see this little comments page explode into life @ last as Martin says, My re-views are as what i see on the evening & feed back from long standing members of the Keys public, the more that this comments page is used it will give a broader horizen on the fantastic bands the Keys have strived to continue to open up morley as a hot bed of music talent & keep live music going in these hard times for publicans & musicians alike.Hope to see the Keys supported much stronger with a lot of fresh faces because the Keys is not & has never been one of these quick buck we will stick a band on or jump on the charity wagon & think its just plain sailing, Howard & Lynn have put a lot of time work & there own money into keeping the Keys live so big thanks to them & lets hope its support from joe public will get stronger.

I have known and watched Emerald rock there way to where they are today and can honestly say they are the most professional set of muscians i've ever met and for people to say that Tom was drunk and the sound was wrong, well your hearing and sight was wrong!! Sure there was a few technical hitches but once they were sorted the band rocked the pub as per usual. Dont base an opinion of a band on just 3 songs stay till the end!! thats my opinion! Emerald are back!!!

I was at the Emerald gig and the comments made Martin,Julesrules & bobby i find totally disgusting. Tom the singer with Emerald was not drunk and to my knolage has never been drunk on stage. The night was a big occasion for the band and there were some technical problems mainly due to the power supply that a band like Emerald need, but saying that all the people who spoke to me enjoyed the night. So for the 3 so called comments are totally scanderless in my opinion. Andy

OK,here i go with my twopennorth.Just remember folks these are my opinions only!.This is the second time ive ventured to the 'keys' to see Emerald. The first time was a disaster in terms of the lead singer(Tom?) being slightly inebreated with alcohol.Tonight,to me, seemed to be no different, with him pacing the stage like a lion in a cage, maybe this was a part of his act?.Have to say the stage sound and lighting looked impressive but when they started, wow, the volume nearly blew my head off.A few people arround me had fingers in their ears and then everything went dead as the system collapsed. Not sure why, but maybe they were pulling far too much power from the circuit. After a few words with the lighting guy he picked his coat up and left the band to it!.The vocals were far too loud with Tom screeching out the words. However amongst all this the musicians seemed ok except i couldn't quite hear the drums over the vocals. At this point i felt very uncomfortable and decided to leave.Didnt see much after the first 3 songs and maybe it improved as the night went on.Again these are only my own thoughts. It would be interesting to see other peoples views.

Emerald
By Julesrules
I was pleased to walk into the Keys last night to a really healthy crowd, it's so what this pub deserves. Have to say, though, I was quite surprised as Emerald's last performance here suffered due to the lead singer's 'over indulgence'. That said, I'd heard that they had taken time out to re-evaluate themselves and was happy to support them in their re-launch. The stage looked very impressive kit-wise and it was clear that the band had spent a great deal of money and effort on it. So to the performance - oh my, more was definitely more when it came to volume! I have listened to rock bands most of my life, all of them loud, and so noise is not normally a problem to me at all but, sometimes, for some reason, some bands think they can only be good at 'rock' if all volume controls are to the max. Not so I'm afraid, and I know I wasn't the only one cringing. Whilst the musicians definitely had some quality, the lead singer drowned them out with his hyper 'shouted' lyrics. I would accept that, whilst some songs do warrant a proportion of 'shouted' lyrics, it does grate a bit when this is the sum of the vocals. If, as the lead singer told the audience, the band did indeed have a ruck with the sound man, and, if it was because he was trying to tell them this, pity they didn't listen. Not sure why the system blew during the first couple of songs but, it was a real shame. Maybe if that hadn't happened the sound man might have stayed and there would have been better control of the sound issues. My only other comment would be that maybe, if the lead singer could better control his quite 'boorish' behaviour, this band would do a whole lot better.

Was a bit worried when we arrived at 9pm and there weren't many folks in the pub. However, a tidy few pitched up over the three quarters of an hour, thank goodness .... and I bet they're glad they did! Monkey Dust were superb - musically tight, excellent vocals, good banter with the crowd, fab stage lighting and effects.... and I loved every minute. Set included mostly indie and a few rock classics, played to the highest standard. The dance floor was kept busy all night! Well impressed lads and definitely a band we'll seek out in future.

Really enjoyed the nights entertainment. The music was very tight along with an excellent light show, which in my opinion always adds to the atmosphere.A range of music from T. PS. A big thank-you to Lynne who performed a minor miracle to get this band on at the last minute after a lot of hard work and several phone calls.ROCK ON!

Martin and I were really disappointed that the Erics cancelled tonight, it was his bithday and his family were coming up from Nottingham for the night. We knew they'd all love the Erics. Well, we needn't have worried Rory and Men aquitted themselves so very well at their Keys debut. The turn out was better than usual for a band new to the Keys and Rory and Co entertained them with a varied and well executed set. Me being an old metal head loved the second set with the heavy rock numbers, me and my mate moshed and rocked well into the night. Difficult shoes to fill, the Erics, but so very well done guys, loved it!

Supporting them will be another local band "A Day For Heroes" who recentley made it to the final of the national surface unsigned competition where they came 5th out of 12,000 applicants! They have come a very long way in the last year and can't wait to play thier local venue! Anyway, hope you can all make it as it is bound to be an awesome night! The Blades
By julesrules
The Blades debut gig went well despite (Dave's Facebook admitted) first nite nerves, attracting a fair old turn out and demonstrating how respected these band members are. They focussed mainly on 70s/80s popular rock and, working hard, got the crowd joining in. Whilst I confess that the heavier stuff is more my bag, I appreciate we have to have a variety of genres to please everyone. However, that said, the band's good music, good humour and fun was infectious and I was soon singing along with the best of 'em! We were all well entertained for the price of a few beers, well half a beer in the case of LSD (no honest, I know you don't believe it but it's true!!)

As usual Jules and i made our way to the 'Keys' to support the local scene. Not having heard of this band we were unsure what to expect. We were quickly informed that these guys had just got together and i think i'm right in saying this was their first gig.If you read my other comments you know i'm a hard rock man at heart, so to listen to a band who play predominantly music from 'pink' then personaly it wasnt for me.On the technical side it was a bit loud(god,am i saying that again??) and the lead guitar was drowned out by the very powerfull vocalist.(my,what a voice she has!).Lots of feedback (i suspect because the volume levels were too high?) which they didnt seem to be able to master. However for a first gig they did ok.It's obvious there is lots and lots of potential with this band and in time to come will become very big on the scene. Thanks for the effort guys. ROCK ON!! ps. good to see a female drummer for a change.

Nick Davis Band
By Martin
Being an old rocker and prefering the heavy rock stuff, i do have a large soft spot for the blues. This band did a couple of sets that was probably 90% blues and i thoroughly enjoyed it.Nick has very nimble fingers playing that guitar, and for a three piece band produced some excellent music.Next time around you wont be dissappointed, so make sure you get yourselves down to the 'Keys'.Thanks for a very enjoyable evening.

Have seen these guys twice now and they get better and better each time ... First time we've ever been to the keys but will DEFFO be coming back , it's very refreshing to see a pub with a website that keeps you so upto date with the upcoming gigs . The landlord and landlady were very nice and welcoming as soon as we walked through the door even though they'd never seen us before ... Look forward to seeing you all again soon ... M&G

Padded Cell
By Martin
QUESTION? Do the people of West Yorks realise what a great local live band scene they have??.Having only been in Yorks for the past 10 years, this local scene is by far the best i have witnessed with some excellent local bands.Padded Cell being one of the finest!.This band really was my cup of tea, floated my boat etc etc.To listen to a band and be able to pick out all the musical sounds is a rareity to me,usually somewhere along the line something isnt quite right, but this performance was brill!!.enjoyed every minute of it (8 pints of Tetleys confirms that......lol) the better the band the more i consume.Well done guys, absolutely superb. So back to the start, what does a venue and band like this have to do to pull the crowds in?.COME ON YORKSHIRE,GET OFF YER BACKSIDES AND SUPPORT THE LOCAL SCENE!!!!!!!.

Rakiteers
By Martin
The only critisism i can give, and i never thought i would ever say this is that they were too loud!!.Had to put some ear defenders in as it was hurting my ears(maybe its my age!!).Other than that i thoroughly enjoyed the gig. Here is a band who obviously enjoy themselves and it's good to see all members interacting with each other, not just standing there playing their instruments. There was always something going off on stage. The set list was well balanced, leaning slightly towards the Punk era which is not my main cup of tea but enjoyed it immensley.Well done guys(and Galls). Will certainly look out for you in the future.ps. next time can you play the full version of Pink Floyd's another brick in the wall?? lol

Versonic
By Martin
As usual we were down at the Keys to support the local live band scene and it was good to see a healthy crowd(dont understand why its not like this all the time).Anyway on to the band,As an old rocker I cant get to grip with electronic drums! . My preference is good solid rock.As this band was of a different 'ilk' i'll just say thanks guys for the effort and it was far better than sitting at home watching eastenders!.One thing that does frustrate me are bands that leave ages between sets.Having to wait almost 50 mins for second set whilst vocalist plays about on his mobile is beyond me.Again these are my own thoughts, just trying some constructive critisism to help you guys along in the future.

gap between sets
By Mav
Yes to tend to agree with you Martin on the length of time some bands seem to take between sets & i have noticed on many occasion this is a sure fire way to loose an audience,to overcome this matter i think it is up to the licencee to stipulate to the bands when they arrive to restrict there break to no more tha 15 mins even if it means them starting the first set slightly later or add more numbers into there set list & as not to be left with the second set to early.

Piston Broke
By julesrules
Having missed my weekend fix of live music last weekend it was good to get back to the Keys to witness Piston Broke perform. As i have said before i do like this venue and support ALL the bands that come along. This band was exactly what i wanted!.Personally i prefer the more heavy sets and Piston Broke delivered,on top of that a 'few' pints of Tetleys and we rocked!!.Well done guys, thoroughly enjoyed the gig and will certainly watch out for you in the future.ROCK ON.

Rocking the Key's
By Peter (sound man for broad band)
Thanks for the nice comment (JulesRules) it was a pleasure to help the broadband guys out on the night, as I know they did want to make a good impression on the Key's faithful..(Which its sounds like they did) I think your spot on with your observation around functions for Broadband, and any band that can do functions should explore the opportunity, as there is some good money to be had.. Oneil's in leeds clearly think BB are up to it as they have given them "house band" status. Every band have one or two songs generally that they just do better than others and I thought the 4 non blondes song "Whats up" was done brilliantly on the night.. Anyway, well done BB... and hopefully I will be back at the keys (with whoever) twiddling knobs again soon.. Pete P.s - Great new site, works great on my MAC

Broadband
By JulesRules
Its obvious that the local circuit contains some excellent bands,Broadband being one of them.Even though much of their music was not my main cup of tea, have to say they worked hard all night and sounded very good.Well done to the mixing guy who took a pride in what he was doing, constantly out in the crowd having a listen. This band would be perfect for private functions as their music range is quite wide.Their enthusiasm was quite infectious.Well done guys(and Galls!)

Scooby
By JulesRules
Well what can i say,yet another excellent band to grace the Keys.I was undecided on Saturday as to where to go as there was another band playing i would have liked to have seen. For a change i definately made the right decision!!.This band hit all the right notes for me playing classics and some more obscure stuff. The musicians were very tight and sounded good.I understand the Bass player only joined them in the week with little time to reherse, what a excellent job they did. There was a decent crowd who appreciated their music, and to do 5 encores, yes 5!, just says what a good band these are.Put a note in your diary for when they play here again, you wont be dissapointed.Well done Scooby,a great night.

Creme Brulee
By Mav
In referance to Jules comment ,firstly thank for making full use of the Keys comments page would be great to receive a lot more like your self on a weekly basis. Unfortunatly i missed the start due to taking in another review or the rotn, but i know like all bands they take critisisam in good faith & put to good use i agree on the extended break it is a sure fire way to loose your not loyal following & on the sound there could be a greater improovment mainly inbetween sets when it is great the bands supply music but i just wish they would not play it on the same level as the bands performanc & just as background music ( this is one of my pet hate's.other than that a good workout from Creme Brulee. On to Sat i guess you have just about said it all ! awesome night.p.s. next time your in the keys ask for Mav & give us a shout would be good to get some fresh reviewers on the site.Mav

the erics and friends
By julesrules
Well what a night!.All i can say is well done to all the bands that played, not a weak link amongst them!.Performance of the night just has to be big Dave who played bass on stage all night without a break, well done that man!. A thoroughly enjoyable night with some top class music.and beer.Of course the big winner was Cystic Fibrosis who actually relieved me of my money... Thanks to everyone concerned.

creme brulee
By julesrules
Have just read the comments on Fridays performance and feel i have to put my thoughts in.Firstly,i am a great believer in supporting a venue like this and appreciate ALL the bands that come along.Have not seen many poor bands here but can i put forward some constructive critisism?.The band were late starting and when they did they were obviously having sound issues, with the drummer drowning out all others.Could not make out the vocals or rhythm guitar. Then they only played 20 mins?? and took a 45 minute break before coming back on.The second set did improve sound wise even though i felt there was still room for improvement. As i had to be at work early Sat morn had to leave a bit early so not sure how long the set was.Yes i agree they did work hard but somehow, in my opinion, didnt quite get it right.Dont like critisising but its just how i felt on the night.Oh,one other thing, how does a band that plays lots of classic rock suddenly in the middle of the set play Kate Perrys' black and white????.Sorry guys, not for a rocker like me.Anyway thanks for the effort and please take these comments in the right spirit!.

Styckleback
By Karon of Broadband
Karon - Broadband 01/11/2009 Morning all. I can only echo Mav's earlier comments re Stykleback at The Cross Keys last night. Broadband had no gig, and as Ian and I are Stykleback virgins, we decided to go and see them in action. We were not disappointed. I have never seen a band work a room so well, they simply were the hosts of a really great party, they were going to play some kick ass rock n roll, so, strap yourselves in and come along for the ride - fantastic musicians, great energy, excellent lighting, brilliant set list..... I tell you, when Broadband grow up, we wanna be just like Stykleback!!
